Rajasthan government announces new IT policy

Jaipur: Rajasthan government Saturday released a new IT & IT enabled services (ITES) policy, which attempts to put in place an investment conducive environment through strategic initiatives, concessions and facilitation.
The IT & ITS Policy 2007 - announced after a gap of 7 years - was released on the sidelines of the Resurgent Rajasthan Partnership Summit, which started here Friday.
The two-day summit was jointly organised by the state government and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci).
The policy aims at creating and expanding economic opportunities in the knowledge sector and attracting investments to the state. It will also strive to make the government more accessible to the citizens and empower them through enhanced access to information.
"All new IT industrial units would be provided 50 percent exemption from payment of electricity duty for 7 years," the policy states.
The policy also offers rebate to IT and ITES companies in land cost and gives additional sops to first movers, by offering subsidy to the first five IT and ITES SMEs (small and medium enterprises) employing more than 50 employees in IT or 100 employees in ITES sector.
Also, the government will consider tie-ups with leading international consultancy firms and empanelled global investment promotion agencies on a success-fee-based approach for attracting investment in the IT sector.
With an aim to foster entrepreneurship, the government will set up an IT incubation centre with state-of-the-art computing facilities in Jaipur.
