Premji junior to join Wipro soon

Bangalore: Rishad Premji, the eldest son of Wipro Ltd chairman Azim Premji, will join the IT bellwether soon in a suitable post. According to a company statement here Monday, Rishad will join Wipro at a level commensurate with his background and experience. "Though his appointment has been approved by the company's board, it is subject to shareholders' approval, as he is a relative of a director," the statement added. Rishad is currently working with a global consultancy firm in Europe. Billionaire Premji, who still holds about 80 percent of the Wipro stock, joined the company at the age of 21 following his father's sudden death in 1966. Wipro was then known as Western India Vegetable Oils Company.
