Bangalore: The charisma of the ever growing Indian small and mid-sized enterprise (SME) market has roped in NetApp, the data storage solution provider, to launch its first SME storage solution, 'S550'.
The launched product is a part of the S-Family solution which comprise of S550, FAS2020 and FAS2050, catering to the SME, mid-sized firms and the large ones respectively. The S550, with 12TB, caters to small businesses with 100 to 500 employees while the FAS 2020, with 68 TB, fits mid-sized business with 250 to 750 employees. Witnessing the trend of spending on storage solution to be around
10 lakhs by the SMEs, it shall be available within the range of
10 to 12 lakhs, depending on the configuration of the purchase. Expecting a 30 to 40 percent year on year (YoY) growth of the market, and the projected growth of the SME's data storage requirements made the company delve into the sphere. The growth in the requirement is projected by Nielsen-Netapp survey on data explosion, which points out, "There will be a 56 percent growth in SMEs whose data storage requirements will jump to the 500-999 GB range from the 100-499 GB range. Further, there will be a 133 percent growth in SMEs whose data storage requirements will increase in the 6-10 TB range." It also targets the remote office or branch office (ROBO) sphere.
Keeping track of the competition that already exists in the market like that of EMC, Dell, Equal Logic, the company asserts that unlike the other solutions, the solution shall cater to the different needs of the SME. The solutions that already exist in the market are meant for specific requirements, while this product is a complete pack comprising of all the required solutions from data storage to disaster recovery to even deduplication.
Assessing the defensive side of the solution, Surajit Sen, Director Channel, Appliances and Market, said, "Even when the SMEs become large enterprises, they shall be able to shift from the S550 to either FAS2020 or FAS2050, which apart from the performance and storage capacity offer same features."
Entering into the market the company expects a growth of around 35 percent. But as far as the revenue growth is concerned, no figures were revealed since they are still on the verge of getting a grasp of the ins and outs of the forayed market. The channel partners involved in the distribution will have no restraints on distribution of it as an individual product.
With a view to expanding its working, the company is also to increase its headcount in its Bangalore center, which is the only development center in India.
