NComputing launches special educational pricing scheme
Bangalore: NComputing, a desktop virtualization company based in California, has launched a Special Education Pricing Scheme on its X-series and L-series kits which will be effective until 20th June 2009. The pricing includes a 25 percent discount on the NComputing X-series kits and a 15 percent discount on the L-series, making the computing seats available at Rs 3750 per seat. The discount, however, is available only for private educational institutions. NComputing aims to encourage private educational institutions in India to experience the high performance and cost saving solutions that it has already delivered to numerous government schools in Andhra Pradesh as well as other private schools in the country. The NComputing virtualization software called vSpace enables a single PC to be shared by as many as 30 users and an access device. Each user's monitor, keyboard, and mouse connect to the small access device, which is then connected to the shared PC. This brings down the cost of infrastructure, installation, and maintenance. "In just 2 years, over 40,000 organizations around the world have installed NComputing to expand computing access to more and more people at an affordable cost. With this special pricing scheme we are encouraging educational institutions throughout the country to start their projects and bring more computer stations to the students," said Manish Sharma, Vice President APAC, NComputing. The device uses only one watt of electricity compared to 120 watts of electricity for a dedicated PC. Also, whereas a normal PC is usually replaced every three to five years, the NComputing devices are expected to have a useful life of at least ten years. The software has already been delivered to 5,000 government schools in Andhra Pradesh and hundreds more private schools, some of them being PS Senior Secondary School, Bharat Higher Senior School, American International School, KFI School and John F Kennedy Public School.
