MTNL launches IP-based mobile next generation network in Mumbai
Bangalore: Mahanagar Telephone Nigam [MTNL] in partnership with hardware vendor Alcatel-Lucent has launched IP based mobile next generation network [NGN] to offer better features to the customers in Mumbai. The next generation network provided by Alcatel-Lucent gives MTNL scalability to migrate from a 2G to a 3G network and to IP Multimedia Subsystem [IMS], giving the operator facilities like network optimization, bandwidth savings and reduced space and power requirement. R S P Sinha, Chief Marketing Director, MTNL says "MTNL has been instrumental in providing the most competitive quality services to its customers and also keeping the market prices at affordable levels even for the common man. 3G services are going to revolutionalize the way we communicate and entertain ourselves." This is a multi-year agreement in which Alcatel-Lucent will provide MTNL with GSM and edge technology solution as well. Services that will be offered to MTNL include project management, consulting and design, installation and deployment, network operations, maintenance and integration and testing. Alcatel-Lucent had earlier provided MTNL with more than 50 percent of TDM switches and 2 million GSM lines. Apart from MTNL, Alcatel-Lucent has provided NGN solution to many operators across the globe.
