Hyderabad: It is the time to relish for the young female aspirants who want to build a career in IT as leading IT companies in India are planning to recruit a large number of women employees in the coming days. In recent times, the women have come forward and they are showing interest in the corporate sector. And this move by the IT industry is definitely going to boost their interest in this field.
"Women bring their own perspective for things and have emerged as better professionals in any situations," experts say. In this regard, the companies like IBM and Microsoft are organizing exclusive technology conferences for women employees.
Women occupy 50 percent of the total BPO employees across the country, whereas it is only 15-20 percent in the IT industry, The Economic Times says. But there is a lack of women professionals in the leadership level. According to Som Mittal, President, Nasscom, companies have realized the importance of women in their workforce.
Kalpana Margabandhu, Director (India Software Labs) & Chairperson, Women's Leadership Council, IBM India says, "Women can bring in a different insight and dynamics to the work." There is a huge requirement of engineers in the next few years as studies show. But women generally do not opt for it, as most of them are not flexible with timings.
Thomas J. Watson, Sr., IBM's legendary leader recognized the value of women in the business equation and he initiated the trend in his company to hire and train women to sell and service IBM products. IBM, one of the prominent IT companies of India, recently organized 'technology day' exclusively for women in Hyderabad to motivate them in different fields related to research, technology and business. IBM also conducts technology and engineering camps for girls in schools. In March, Microsoft has recruited 50 women computer professionals for its Hyderabad centre on the basis of its search in 11 cities across the country.
Though there is a new trend in the recruitment process and companies are taking interest in women employees, there is still a long way to go for the women professionals to come closer to the number of their male counterparts.
