SINGAPORE:Chinese computer giant Lenovo said Monday it had chosen Singapore as its regional headquarters for operations in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and India. Lenovo, which formally announced on May 1 it had acquired IBM's personal computing (PC) division for $1.75 billion, said Singapore would also be its global hub for sales support, supply chain control and global treasury. "Lenovo chose Singapore due to its central location in ASEAN, world-class logistics infrastructure, excellent international banking network and talented pool of professionals," Lenovo senior vice president, Mary Ma, said in a statement. "Locating our international sales support center in Singapore, alongside our supply chain control center for PCs, will allow us to further our mission of delivering high-quality products and world-class service to our customers while also benefiting from the operational efficiencies this location provides." The Singapore government's Economic Development Board (EDB) said the decision reflected the city-state's growing reputation as a hub for international business and investment. "It (also) shows with our multicultural and multilingual workforce, we are well positioned to play a bridging role between the East and the West," EDB chairman Teo Ming Kian said.
