Bangalore: Nasscom foresees a three to four percent dip in growth in export revenues in IT services and BPO in fiscal 2008-09. The Nasscom's latest survey on revenue performance states that the overall IT-BPO industry, including the domestic market, recorded 28 percent growth to touch $52 billion revenue in fiscal 07-08.
Som Mittal, President, Nasscom said, "The Indian IT-BPO industry's resilience is reflected in its FY07-08 performance, with a 28.2 percent overall growth rate and next year's projected growth between 21-24 percent."
Within the export segment, IT services exports have grown by 28 percent to clock revenues of $23.1 billion; while BPO exports ramped up by 30 percent registering revenues of $10.9 billion. Whereas India's software and services exports grew 29 percent in 2007-08 to register revenue of $40.4 billion, up from $31.4 billion in the previous year. As a part of the survey, NASSCOM also released the annual rankings for Top 20 IT Software and Service exporters in India (excluding BPO revenues), Top 20 BPO rankings and Top 20 IT-BPO employers in India.
Tata Consultancy Service remained the top software and services exporter followed by Infosys and Wipro.
Though recently a real estate consulting firm in its survey states that Bangalore, a home to many BPO companies, seems to be losing its attraction in luring new companies in the sector, Som Mittal, President, Nasscom is confident.
Mittal said, "We are well on our way to achieve the target of $60 billion in exports by FY09-10, the industry is now focusing on improving productivity, efficiency, as well as opening up new markets and services."
"With factors like the drop in currency and oil inflation, the whole world is suffering pressure. But the BPO industry is looking at this as an opportunity to improve efficiency and productivity," said Mittal.
