IIM grads get guidance in politics

Ahmedabad: Indian Institute of Management (IIM) graduates can now have a little bit of politics. IIM Ahmadabad (IIM-A) is initiating programs to make students aware of politics and public affairs, reported Business Standard. IIM-A has already begun a course titled 'Globalizing Resurgent India through Innovative Transformation,' which was introduced by APJ. Abdul Kalam, former President of India, and Anil Gupta, an IIM faculty member. The course will be jointly taught by Kalam and Gupta during the second term. Gupta said that the students would be trained in developing skills for policy analysis, change and contribute to policy decisions in a creative manner through innovations. They would develop a policy scenario for inclusive growth for various sectors. IIM-A has already started a one year post graduate program in public management and policy last year which is focusing on governance, policy formulation and implementation. Lulu Prasad Yadav, Central Railway Minister, Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister of Bihar and Narendra Modi, Gujarat Chief Minister have given guidance on a various aspects of policy formation and public affair. Earlier this year, IIM- A invited Dalai Lama, the religious icon, to discuss on 'Ethics and Business.' Moreover, there is good response from the part of the students also. Some students have already approached political leaders like Sitaram Yechuri, CP I (M) Polit Bureau Member, to do summer internship with him. They will help in planning the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme, National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. They will also analyze the provision of Right to Information and will assess funds spent by the constituency and create a monitoring system for the performance of the NGOs and local bodies. More students are going to approach political parties and public administration bodies to do their projects.
