Google announces full Android 3.0 Honeycomb SDK

Bangalore: Google has announced the availability of full Software Development Kit (SDK) for Android 3.0. The SDK is now available to developers. Applications can now be developed for this new platform and published in the Android Market, according to Xavier Ducrohet, Tech Lead, Android SDK.
Android 3.0 is designed for larger devices, especially tablets. It also features a redesigned UI for tablets and better connectivity options. It lets users to see the tasks that are running by accessing Recent Apps list which is present in the Systems Bar. From here, the users can directly go to a different application.
Other features include supporting Media Picture Transfer Protocol that helps in syncing media files with a USB-connected camera or desktops, without using USB mass storage device. It also support Bluetooth tethering.
It allows fast text entry with the help of a redesigned keyboard that has its keys reshaped and repositioned. Along with this, there are additions of new keys too such as Tab key that helps in getting more efficient text input.
If we look from the developers' perspective, Android 3.0 presents a new UI framework for tablets apps, improvised 2D and 3D graphics, multi-core processor architecture support, and better connectivity options such as HTTP live streaming. SDK also include device administration policies handling encrypted storage, password expiration and history. It also provides developers with Renderscript graphics engine.
Along with Honeycomb, Google is also likely to release updates to its SDK Tools (r10) and ADT Plugin for Eclipse (10.0.0).
