PANAJI: Big names from across the country and beyond are expected to attend what Goa is calling the small state's "biggest ever information technology event" to be held here in early December. Called "The Goa Agenda", the two day "strategy retreat" on December 1 and 2 will focus on "Information Technology for Society”. About 100 participants from across the IT industry are expected to attend, according Goa Chambers of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) president Nitin Kunkolienker. "This event offers an excellent opportunity to the people of Goa to listen to and interact with those who have toiled hard to put India on top of the IT world," said Kunkolienkar, general manager of the prominent D-Link India's Goa plant. The Goa government and the local businessmen's body GCCI have teamed up to organize the event. For some time, Goa has been trying to build up its IT infrastructure and attract investment in this field. But political instability and frequent changing policies have created many hurdles. "The Goa Agenda" is expected to give the industry a much needed impetus. Goa is emerging as the national research and development (R&D) hub with its recent policy making provisions for R&D parks," argued Kunkolienkar. He argued that chief executive officers are expected to have enough time to attract attention of the key officials and ministers to realize the benefits for their IT units through the emerging hub on India's west coast. "With many a visionaries confirming their participation, the organizers are leaving nothing to chance for clinical execution of the task," said the GCCI chief.
