Bangalore: The Enterprise Architecture Practitioner Conference started on February 25 in Bangalore. Conducted by The Open Group, a vendor-neutral and technology-neutral consortium, which drives the creation of boundary-less information flow, the conference is expected to throw light on the concept of breaking down the barriers within and between enterprises. The conference also focuses on the business benefits of creating and sustaining successful enterprise architecture ecosystems. Sameer Padhye, Vice President, worldwide service provider line of business, Cisco Systems, presented the keynote address at the commencement of the conference, on the topic 'The Network as a Platform' with specific focus on Service-Oriented Network Architecture. "Nowadays, end users are becoming empowered and more and more demanding. They want to interact with the distributors from any part of the world. In the past, companies built applications as vertical silos, but now, as market demands, we need to explore ways to collaborate different applications to ensure an interoperable network," said Padhye. Allen Brown, President and CEO of The Open Group set the tone for the conference by speaking about the Open Group vision of boundary-less information flow. Allen Brown also launched the Bangalore chapter of Association of Open Group Enterprise Architects (AOGEA), a professional association for certified Enterprise Architects that provides a forum for thought leadership and best practices in Enterprise Architecture. The Bangalore Chapter will be chaired by Harikrishna S Aravapalli of Infosys Technologies. Ron Baillie of Cathay Pacific Airways spoke about managing change as a part of an enterprise architecture (EA) program. According to him, given the long-term nature of an effective EA program and the short attention spans of most organization stakeholders, it is vital for enterprise architects to understand and use the power of change management techniques to ensure that the EA program delivers and maintains effective results. Track sessions of the conference include case studies featuring Cathay Pacific Airways, Cisco, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, QRS and Wipro Technologies.
