Mumbai: As a strategic move to stabilize its faltering profits, Norway-based financial services group DnB NOR ASA is strengthening its India base by setting up a representative office in Mumbai. "In the present economic climate, the move underscores that the Indian market is important to the firm's future in Asia," said Rune Bjerke, group CEO, DnB Nor ASA.
The firm's Mumbai office will house six employees and be headed by Derick Dias who has been appointed chief representative officer. According to Bjerke, the Mumbai office will complement DnB NOR's Singapore and Shanghai operations and will deepen the bank's risk assessment and credit expertise to better serve the Asia region.
Currently, in India the Norwegian bank deals with companies who are in the shipping, offshore, logistics and energy sector. The group also has a small asset management business based out of Chennai.
