Bangalore: Fuel efficiency being the urgent need of today's time in the light of current oil crisis, the 'Garuda RVCE Supermileage Car' has been shaped with a mileage of 180 Kms/litre. Students of R.V. College of Engineering have developed the car powered by a Honda GK engine, which is also slated to be redesigned to give a 500 Kms/litre in due course. The initiative 'Project Garuda- RVCE Supermileage Car', was successfully unveiled on 2nd August, 2008, by the Indian Automobile Designer, Dilip Chabria. As according to Nishant Sarawgi, "One very core objective which guided the process was also to help create awareness of the burning environmental issues like global warming, oil crisis and the need for green technologies and conservation of energy." Explaining the features of the car, Nishant Sarawagi, team leader of the Project Garuda, said: "Garuda, powered by a 97 cc Honda GK 100 with 2 HP air cooled engine, will represent India at the SAE Supermileage and Shell, United States, and Eco-Marathans, United Kingdom. We will be the first Indian team to participate in these events and we are hoping to enhance the fuel efficiency to 500 Kms/litre in the coming days." The fuel efficiency of the car was tested on the NICE corridor and under test conditions has demonstrated a mileage of 180 Kms/litre. Various firms like Tantra Infosolutions, CD Adapco, Chameleon Motors, Bimal Auto Agency and Innoversant Solutions, lend in their support to equip with the technologies required in building the car.
