Cisco to ensure security in Bangalore city

Bangalore: As 500 million people are going to be urbanized in the next five years, managing developing cities like Bangalore will become a tough task for the government. Offering an integrated city management system to better control the complex city environment, networking major Cisco has signed a MoU with the government of Karnataka to do a pilot project to develop a roadmap for an intelligent, smart and sustainable Bangalore city under its 'Global Intelligent Urbanization' initiative, which is also launched on the occassion. As part of the pilot project, Cisco will work with Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation and the Karnataka police to improve safety and security around one of the major bus terminals in the city through Cisco's networking and video surveillance solutions. Cisco claims that the ten year project would be cost-effective and would offer remote monitoring capabilities with real time information. Delivering the keynote address, Dr.B.S.Yeddyurappa, Chief Minister of Karnataka said, "With public safety and security, health care and energy being our primary focus, we are looking to work closely with Cisco in developing urban infrastructure for the citizens of Karnataka." John Chambers, Chairman and CEO, Cisco said that in a world where all things are becoming connected, the network became the next utility, enabling the holistic, intelligent and environmentally sustainable creation and management of cities, industries and public services. "The signing of this MoU and the presence of our 'Globalization Center East' in Bangalore gives us the opportunity to work closely with the authorities and apply our knowledge and experience to play a role in the city's transformation," opined Wim Elfrink, Chief Globalization Officer and Executive Vice President, Cisco. Chambers has also appreciated the government of India for its actions on Satyam scandal and said Cisco will continue relationship with Satyam. Foreseeing a recovery of the economy by the end of 2009, Cisco has plans to invest enormously in emerging markets like India and China.
