Auto ancillary chiefs turn to MIT for better grip on auto industry

Chennai: CEOs will delve into the product design and development program of Massachusetts Institute of Technology to strengthen their grip over the future auto industry. "Indian component makers are well-recognized for their best practices in manufacturing and cost-advantage. The future however lies in the ability to develop products from scratch for global automobile manufacturers," said Vishnu Mathur, Executive Director, Automotive Components Manufacturers' Association (ACMA). The 30 member team is scheduled to interact with two MIT professors, Steven Eppinger and Charles Fine for an insight in the field of product development and supply chain strategy and value chain road-mapping. The former is recognized for his book Product Design and Development while the latter's Clockspeed: Winning Industry Control in the Age of Temporary Advantage has won him several applaud. Infact the one crore program which is funded by ACMA is designed for the CEOs and will consist of persons like Sanjay Labroo of Asahi India Glass, Deep Kapuria of Hi-Tech Gears, Jatendar Mehta of Omax Auto, Arvind Kapur, Rico Auto Industries and Srivats Ram of Wheels India.
