40 percent cut in iPhone production predicted

Bangalore: With iPhone buzz being slowed down, the production of the iconic phone may also see a decline. "Previous checks indicated that iPhone production would fall about 10 percent sequentially in calendar 4Q but our new checks indicate that iPhone production could fall more than 40 percent sequentially in 4Q," predicts FBR Capital Markets' note by Craig Berger. The foreseen fall in the production can be expected to reflect Apple's ramp up of delivery to countries outside the U.S. Infact, the company earlier had to increase production to fill the supply chain overseas. But with continuous demand declining, Apple can end up lowering its production. Reacting to the prediction, Van Baker of Gartner said, "Such a cut could end up painting an ugly picture, but not as ugly as it seems on face value."
