Located in the posh Civil Lines area in North Delhi, the bungalow at 33 Shamnath Marg was lying vacant and abandoned for almost 10 years after the death of Deep Chand Bandhu, the former Industries Minister. The minister died of illness in the bungalow before completing his terms.

33 Shamnath Marg is no ordinary address, earlier it used to be the official residence of Delhi’s high and mighty but the bungalow remained unoccupied due to the jinxed factor.

It is said that whoever lived in the bungalow, met with a troubled fate. For instance, many politicians including chief ministers, who were allotted the bungalow could not complete their terms in office.

"Delhi's first chief minister Chaudhury Brahm Prakash had to quit office before completing his term after he moved into the bungalow in 1952. Similarly, Madan Lal Khurana, who was allotted this bungalow when he became the chief minister of Delhi in 1993, had to resign in 1996 due to a controversy," said an official.

But currently, this high-profile bungalow is now the official residence of Delhi's power secretary Shakti Sinha. This year April, Sinha moved into this sprawling bungalow ignoring the controversial past. Besides, the bungalow includes four bedrooms, a spacious drawing-cum-dining area, seven servant quarters, two garages, one storeroom and a large guard room.
