Books recommended
It would be better to collect in depth knowledge in the content processing technologies. The structured content making process is linked with many markup and meta languages like HTML,SGML and XML. All associated terminologies must be familiar to the beginners - DTD, Stylesheets, Schema, Schematrons etc. The knowledge of scripting and programming is reccomended and to start with collecting knowledge in Perl, Javascript, Php etc are a good idea. To get an overall understanding books on publishing will help.
Challenges faced in job
The most challenging thing in the job is rapidly developing technologies and platforms. Currently the industry requires quick learners and implement the todays technology today without having time to study indepth. Business focus on time and the speed to market is the mantra. To understand the customer's requirements, most of the time we have to think from their shoes. All these challenges enables us to gain more competency in our field and help us to grow professionally.
Current Trends
The current trend in publishing is moving from print to digital and from PCs to tablets. The content is now have to be very handy and must reach the end users in their mobile tablet devices with more fluidity - ability to present layouts fit to different device screens.
My achievement
From the traditional normal schooling I could reach a world class corporate profession to associate with most renowned publishing professionals. And I could implement many successful turnkey projects which increased the revenue of the business associates. I have achieved this with a team of highly focussed and motivated professionals, and I am happy to lead them...
Views about 'Tech product Introduction is weak among Indians'
we should have good climate which should enable us to come out with innovations. We are making world class innovations for other multinational corporates. We are often sell our talents rather than the output of talents. The rightly focused government with industry tied education system will make a turn around in this area.
My advice
A beginner should learn the big picture and become a generalist at first, and then focus on specialization. Selective quick learning will help to climb the steps faster with stability. Also listen to the leaders and build a strong relationship network. Do not work without a goal. Your objectives will guide you. Do not define impractical goals and also the one which will not benefit to your partners.
My strongest Skill
Technology implementation, Solution developments, Technical sales and crises management are the strongest points. I mix six of the leadership styles in the required situations. I am not demotivated by failures. I believe in dynamic organizations with flexibility in delivery and process which ensure efficiency.
Being different
I am a generalist. I think about the big picture from my partner's perspective that helps to bring in right ideas to perfect solution. My everyday learning support me to offer the best leads to my team. I work as a team patron rather than a managing tasks.
My important career decision
I have founded a publishing company which publish an IT fortnightly after few years working with a graphic design firm. But later we decided close the operations, and I continued my studies and entered Publishing KPO in technology dept. This was the most important as it was an emotional challenge we all faced. But after this I never have to look back, and I got a best professional growth.
Managing professional as well as personal life
I manage my time with providing priority to personal and professional responsibilities. I stay focused on tasks based on priorities that help me to avoid surprises. My close associates are trained to take the task and complete without my micro management which help me gain more consistency in my professional requirements. In short I gain well planned time for job and family.
