Other Thoughts:
Any entrepreneur has to focus on his special area by enlarging the scope of operations and taking more interest to diversify and enlarge the areas of operations. This is the only way to get along with those in the industry and also aim for improving the area of operation.
Job Profile:
As editor and publisher, it is my primary responsibility to sift through relevant areas of housing stories for readers and update them periodically on the industry progress. Interaction with experts in other areas like taxation, legal and FEMA would enable me to focus on NRI related stories. It is also my responsibility to interact with government agencies on a periodical basis on the government's proposed initiative for infrastructure projects which will enable prospective investors to take advantage of the situation to invest at the appropriate location and reap rich dividends. We organise seminars to update people in the industry on the need to keep abreast of themselves on the sector's policies, impact on other sectors and the need to take instant decision to insulate themselves from the market gyrations. Our latest initiative include to apprise the younger generation on the need to know about housing industry, how it operates and the opportunities available to be on their own.
Advice For New Professionals:
Professionals will have to fully involve themselves when they enter the workforce. May be some areas will teach them wider scope in the coming years. at the same time there may be other areas which will mould them to become entrepreneurs.
The Journey So Far:
My corporate journey took through engineering, automobile and the biggest non-oil sector in the UAE. A rare opportunity of working with multinational executives helped to understand the nitty gritty involved in man-management and the paramount need to learn better things in life from others.
The Decisions That Matter
i worked very hard for a professional degree after post graduation even after my migration to other country for employment. I have diversified my activities to pursue my passion on media which encouraged me to become an entrepreneur.
Growth Strategy:
Taking up more responsibilities, updating on the industry knowledge and trying to undertake new projects to be in the limelight.
Family Background
I hail from a middle class family and will have to struggle to come up in the midst of adverse impact of corrupt politicians and their casteist policies in Tamil Nadu.
Working Life Management:
There are personal sacrifices need to be made at times and an entrepreneur cannot have the cake and eat it too.
Involvement in the Industry
I have organised 14 international India property shows across USA, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Singapore and Malaysia. The US Asia Business Forum has recognised my contribution to the housing sector as a journalist and when the Virginia governor visited with a delegation, I was one of the invitees to meet them and help them in identifying potential projects for investment. I had written over 1000 articles to national and international publications on real estate topics and continues to remain as a columnist on NRI real estate matters to a Gulf based publication.
Degrees That Matter:
A basic post graduation degree in any field
Professional Strengths:
Analysing the industry trends, helping those in need.
Changes In The Professional Environment:
An entrepreneur has to keep himself abreast of developments otherwise it will be difficult to be in the limelight and guide those seeking your support.
Role Model:
Late Shri Nani Palkhivala, the legal luminary and former Indian Ambassador to USA. When I first published a small book on housing for NRIs, he wrote the foreword and advise me not to give up, come what may. His humility, sincerity and advice encouraged me to continue the real estate publications even today.
Career Profile:
As editor and publisher, it is absolutely necessary to keep a track on the industry progress, go through various publications to update myself. The journey has been from an employee to an entrepreneur and that is the difference.
