Briefly tell me about your company and the IT strategies you have in place
For over six decades, Forbes Marshall has been building steam engineering and control instrumentation solutions that work for process industry. Today we have evolved into a leader in process efficiency and energy conservation through technology tie-ups and focused investments in manufacturing and research. Our joint ventures with the world’s leading names enable us to deliver quality solutions in 14 countries. Our business practices and processes have combined into a singular philosophy of being trusted partners who provide innovative solutions. It’s a philosophy we are proud to live up to.

We strongly believe in Open Culture so as for IT as well.
What do you think about new technologies like cloud and virtualization?
We have already moved on to cloud for collaboration tool and our Data Centre is 100% Virtual. I am a strong believer of these technology benefits.
How do you keep yourself updated with latest technologies?
I read magazines time to time and attend seminars and conferences.
How big is your team?
Entire IT team in Forbes Marshall is 30 Member team
What is your biggest pain point?
Mobility..! Any time any where access.
Will technology help to address those pain points?
Partially, YES so far. Working on more robust technology to address.
Did IT innovation become more critical during the slowdown?
Yes, it is much need of the day. Even otherwise, innovation has a value any time.
How have you adopted cloud policy?
We have our data accessible to us any time. Vendor-lock-in is not an issue for us.
What is the annual IT budget that you spent on IT systems?
Around 6 Crs in 2011-12
Should an IT leader be a manager first, or a technologist first?
One should look at Technology-Leader. At the same he should be master in handling the team.
What is the ROI on the technological investment that you make?
Not for every investment. Some are indirect and long term for RoI
What are the new technologies that you are looking forward for?
Integration with different solution, mobility
How do you describe the relationship of CIO with the CEO’s?
It is like a sugar in a milk.
What is your advice/ suggestions to fellow CIOs in the industry?
RoI is not the only benchmark for implementing the solution or adopting the technology. There is more to it.
