Relationship with HR and Top Management
The CEO is the person who manages the show in the business and HR department helps the business by maintaining the balance in the talent pool hence the HR should try to be a strategic business partner with the CEO and understand his needs for the business to grow and have a vision together.
Advice For Fellow HR Leaders:
I am too young to advise but yes I would surely suggest that as an HR member we should try to learn all we can about the business and grow and explore all the knowledge we have access to, thus becoming a full fledged HR professional who can make HR a profit center and not merely a support function as it is normally considered to be.
Recommended Reading
I normally read Human Capital magazine,I read NHRD journals to update me.
Identifying and Promoting New Leaders:
Leaders can be identified when given a task. I normally make a point to do succession planning for the next line of managers. This helps me creating a database for the team of line functions.
Recruiting new generation:
Gen Y are ambitious but they need to be given to explore opportunities to retain them.
Helping to develop the country
Professionals can be a part of various social reform activities and work with NGOs on weekends to develop educate the needy and the unprivileged thus supporting education to change the country's future.
Attract good people, Retain Better Performers and Advance the Best:
I attract candidates by offering good career opportunities, good remuneration and better growth.
Qualities that we Look For While Hiring:
I look for potential, good talent and soft skills which are employable.
Pain Points:
Retaining candidates especially GEN Y and giving the talent the thing that they need to make them pillars of strength.
HR Challenges:
In planning Human Resource Strategies there are problems like facing attrition and trying to retain them. The business needs are ever changing and demanding.
Current HR Trends:
In HR today the trend is to create a workplace that keeps the employees motivated and engaged to work, employee engagement is the key to employee retention. Designing competencies while recruiting and then building strong bonding between line and staff functions is required for survival and growth. The strategic side of HR needs to be explored.
HR Strategies In Place
The Key HR strategies which we follow in our organisation are having detailed study of technical and behavioral competencies while working, having a talent management system to manage talent pool in the company, training employees for various technical and behavioral skills.
Improving Education system
I feel that the education system in India is very theoretical and hence it does not produce students who can think out of the box. On the other hand it produces students who are not employable. Hence some practical and employable aspects such as soft skills need to be taught to students for making them better at jobs.
Parting Thoughts
I would like to add that Silicon India provides a range of articles which could help the HR fraternity to learn about the current practices and trends in HR and practice accordingly. We should share information and knowledge to strengthen the community as a whole.
