Could you tell us briefly about your family background?
Hailed from Tanjore district, Tamil Nadu. Belong to a middle class family; father retired TN government servent (Dy.BDO) and mother a house-wife.
Most Important Decisions
Have been progressively growing; into IT/IS, Business Solutions, and part of Technology transitions from 1985. Those days things were on legacy computing systems. Later into client/server model, ERP, CRM, e-Com, Web apps, cloud / on-demand. Enjoy every situations and challanges that come on my way.
Parting thoughts
Technology transitions are fast and it is not so cheap to live upto it. But, it is the order of the day - one has to cope-up with it - else, chances for becoming outdated quickly.
Points of inflection
Got many opportunities to execute IT projects in India and abroad. The confidence level kept increasing along successful execution of challaing projects/assignments.
The Journey So Far
Started my career as Office assistant, MIS coordinator and moved to Programming (developer), Systems Analyst, IS Manager (projects, service, delivery, Quality, etc) in a span of 10 years. Those days things were not so easy; moving from one level to another level (role) was a big challange.
Areas for the Future
S/w testing, as I read somewhere, is like "dish washing" 881984 everyone may not like it. If the dish was not washed/not maintained properly then the chances for the dish spoiling the kitchen show is high. I lead s/w QA team for about 3 years. QA is an important area and a maximum attention to be paid.
Degrees that Matter
Got an opportunity, formally undergone QTP training from Mercury Interactive (acquired by hp). Training is always useful; else, one may end-up wasting time and can become less productive. Obviously, one has to realise the need and evaluate options and decide. TestDirector is one such good suite.
Essential Advice
It is always better to get variety of experience in early times. Manufacturing (development), DBA, QA/Testing, Training, Documentation are key areas for a person to become a strong IT resource. It is also important to master one or two areas as one grow. S/w QA is an interesting area; try once.
Currently working at
After 25 years of domain experience, currently I'm into IT consulting and services; functioning in the name of ForeBeams Business Solutions.
Role Model
There is no specific role-model I can cite. Every co-employee was very agressive towards their career-path. Competition and Technology transitions make people to unlearn old and learn new things.
Required Reading
Thanks to internet technology; today everything is available on net; the best source of information repository, which I strongly believe. There are many books available on s/w QA.
Changes in the industry
From a conventional manual way of testing applications, today many houses automated this process fully. There is always a caution; one should be double sure about the quality of s/w before releasing it for commercial. No doubt, Quality costs; but, poor quality may cost heavily.
Most Important Lessons
Believe people & have believe in you. Believing everyone is dangerous; but, not believing anyone is much more dangerous. No decisions are made wrong - only circumstances / situations make to take such decisions. Circles and contacts are important; have a balanced approach.
Plans for the Future
To be a valued consultant having good clients and good team. However, If I get a challanging role such as CIO/Head in a great corporate., I will happily accept. I wish I continue to have necessary energy to work till the age of 75.
Current and Previous Responsibilities
Now I'm on the other side of the table. Having employed for over 25 years in IT end-user organizations, it is challanging to generate leads and mature them into prospect. Until few years back things were not so tough. Now the global economic setback is a big challange.
