Could you tell us briefly about your family background?
I was born and brought up in Kolkata in a traditional Bengali mediocre joint family. My ancestral origin was in West Bengal. My father is now retired and he was senior office supervisor in CESC. My mother is a home maker. I have one elder sister who is married & I have a sweet little niece.
The Journey So Far
I worked in various IT companies & gathered exp. in Internet Marketing – Design, Development, QA, Advertising and Sales. Now I've founded Seven Boats Info-System Pvt. Ltd.(7boats.com)- A young, trusted and unconventional Web Marketing company having clients from USA, UK, India, Malaysia & Russia.
Most Important Decisions
Since long, I was always interested in emerging technologies & new marketing strategies. Also I had a dream and immense passion to set up a bootstrapped company of my own. So after my comp. Engg & MBA, I joined mostly start-ups to learn maximum at short span & also to evaluate my own potential well.
Currently working at
I am the Founder & CEO of our bootstrapped start-up - Seven Boats Info-system Pvt. Ltd. - A full service digital marketing company based at Saltlake, Kolkata. I am the Lead strategist at 7Boats.com. We have recently got " Indian Leadership Award for Industrial Development" 2012, by IEDRA & AIAF
Current and Previous Responsibilities
So, what does a startup CEO DO? Everything except for what you’d imagine a CEO of a company doing :)I work with my full passion day in and day out. This is vastly different and challenging than when you are in a specific job. Here the scopes are unlimited where as in job the roles & SOW are defined
A Fine Balance:
Time management is a big challenge. I try to maintain a transparent & honest relationship with our clients so that there is no expectation/delivery- schedule mismatch. Also I put stress in automation, task delegation & advance scheduling. I try to keep SWITCH ON & OFF mode for work & personal life.
Changes in the industry
QA is process-centered approach to ensuring that a company is providing the best possible products or services. It is related to quality control, which focuses on the end result, but now there is the concept of TQM (Total Quality Management)which focuses not only on end product but also in every step
Points of inflection
Digesting failure is hard but digesting success is harder. Being academically a ranked student in school/college, I failed cracking my first interview in a top IT firm that gave me insights about the gap in theory & practical. EVOLVE, EVOLVE & EVOLVE is the success mantra. Still long way to go...
Tech trends to watch out for
Mobile Application Testing, Testing-as-a-Service, Business Intelligence Testing, Cloud Testing are some of the emerging technology trends in testing space. Information accuracy, consistency and reliability, information validation, data loss, reporting inefficiencies and data security are important..
Required Reading
Lessons Learned In Software Testing, by Bach, Kaner and Pettichord, How To Break Software by James Whittaker, Testing Computer Software by Cem Kaner, Beautiful Testing: Leading Professionals Reveal How They Improve Software by Adam Goucher, Software Testing by Ron Patton are few good books to read.
Plans for the Future
I would like to advance - personally as well as professionally. However, I am flexible. I will do my current job to the best of my ability and keep my eyes open for opportunities. I would continue with my passion. Time is uncertain, changing and so is everything. So I would love to EVOLVE with time.
