Top Indian-origin CEOs in USA’s Corporate Firmament

Companies led by Indian-American made over $530 billion in 2020.

FREMONT, CA: Parag Agarwal, CEO of microblogging site Twitter, has collaborated with a selected group of Indian- American CEOs who are leading US technology companies. Along with Parag Agarwal, the group includes Sundar Pichai, who leads Google and its parent company, Alphabet, and Microsoft’s Satya Nadella. These Indian-American CEOs, as a combined, earned revenue of above $530 billion in 2020.

Though before the 1990s, very few Indian-Americans could make top rank in corporate America. The record was broken in the mid-1990s when there was an elevation in the businesses of other executives. Today, Indian-American CEOs hold several topmost positions in the US corporate arena.

Mentioned below is a list of a few among the top Indian-American CEOs who head US companies :

Parag Agrawal

The CEO of Twitter, Parag Agarwal, achieved this rank in November 2021, after the former CEO decided to step down. Parag’s company revenue was $3.7 billion in 2020 and he also serves as a member of the Board. Agrawal became Twitter's first "Distinguished Engineer" because of his work and revenue and consumer engineering, including his impact on driving audience growth back in the year 2016 and 2017. Sequentially, Parag became Twitter’s Chief Technology Officer or CTO in 2017.

Sundar Pichai

Sundar Pichai is the CEO of Alphabet Inc. and Google. His company revenue was  $181.69 billion in 2020. The 49-year-old served as a product manager for Google Chrome and Google Drive products since joining in 2004. He was a contender to become CEO of Microsoft in 2014, but the position ultimately went to the next person on this list.

Satya Nadella

The CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella’s Company revenue was $168.1 billion in 2021. Before becoming CEO, Nadella served as an Executive Vice President of Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise Group. Before joining Microsoft in 1992, Nadella worked at Sun Microsystems.  Under Nadella’s leadership, Microsoft acquired Mojang, LinkedIn, and Github.
