Pune-Origin Indian American Becomes Youngest Self-Made Woman Entrepreneur: Hurun

The IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List featured Neha Narkhede, an Indian American, as the youngest self-made woman entrepreneur with a wealth of 580 million USD

Indian American Neha Narkhede, the co-founder of Confluent, a streaming data technology company, was featured in the recently published IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich list 2022 as the youngest self-made woman entrepreneur. She is a 37-year-old businesswoman with an estimated net worth of 580 million USD and ranked 336th in the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2022, which featured people with a net worth of at least 123 million USD.

According to the list released in July 2022, Narkheda is also one of five Indian American women among 100 women present in the Forbes 2022 list of America’s Richest Self-made women. She ranked 57th on the Forbes list with a wealth of 490 million USD.

Narkhede was brought up in Pune, India, studied Computer Science at Georgia Tech, and advised many technology startups. A report by American Bazaar noted that she has also helped develop the open-source messaging system Apache Kafka dealing with the networking site’s massive influx of data as a LinkedIn software engineer.

Along with her two colleagues, Jun Rao and Jay Kreps, Narkhede left LinkedIn and founded Confluent, a tech startup helping organizations process large amounts of data on Apache Kafka. Confluent became a 338 million USD worth company when it went public in June 2021 at a 9.1 billion valuation in which Narkhede and her family own about eight percent of the shares.

The IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List featured 1,103 individuals, 96 more than from 122 cities.  Among them, 67 percent were self-made or entrepreneurs compared to 659 in 2021 and 367 years ago. Gautam Adani achieved the top position with a total wealth of 134 billion USD, surpassing Mukesh Ambani and their family with 98 billion USD. Managing director and Chief Researcher of Hurun India, Anas Rahman Junaid, stated that India has the third-highest number of unicorns and gazelles or fast-growing enterprises with a base revenue of 100,000 USD in the world. Moreover, the list says that Mumbai has become the home of the most significant number of wealthy Indian individuals at 283, followed by New Delhi at 185, and Bengaluru at 89.
