According to a statement released by the White House, the United States joins the people of India to honour its democratic journey guided by Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring message of truth and non-violence, as people around the world, including nearly four million proud Indian-Americans, celebrate the 75th anniversary of India's independence on August 15.

India and the United States are indispensable partners, and their strategic partnership is based on the common commitment to upholding the rule of law and the promotion of human freedom and dignity. In addition, Biden praised the Indian-American community in the US for its contributions to strengthening the nation. He also added that the strong relationships amongst the people further bolster the India-US partnership. The thriving Indian-American population in the United States has made the US nation a more innovative, inclusive, and stronger nation.

The statement concluded with Biden expressing that the two democratic nations would continue to stand together to defend the rules-based order, foster greater peace, prosperity, and security for the people, and advance a free and open Indo-Pacific in the coming years. Moreover, the countries will join hands together to address the challenges facing the world. Additionally, Secretary of State Antony Blinken sent congratulations to the Indian people on the occasion and referred to the 75 years of diplomatic relations as meaningful. Blinken stated that on this important day, the US reflects on the democratic values that the countries share and honours the Indian people who are building a brighter future together. He also remarked that their meaningful diplomatic relationship, which has been going strong for 75 years, touches on a variety of topics, including trade, climate, and thriving people-to-people contacts. Blinken affirmed that the partnership will continue to contribute to the security and prosperity of its citizens and global well-being as they are two great democratic worlds.
