NEW DELHI: Ministers and representatives from 12 states met here today to discuss strategies to leverage partnerships with the private sector and international organisations to advance gender equality and women's empowerment in the United States and India.

The one-day conclave was hosted by the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) and the NGO Shakti Vahini with the support of the US Secretary of State's Office of Global Women's Issues and the US Embassy.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was present on the occasion and praised the work of DCW.

"He said that politics should be kept away from issues related to women and girls and people indulging in politics should not forget that they too have women family members and if the situation worsened they too will be affected," said a DCW statement.

Participants included state ministers for women and child development, state government officials, international organisations, industry representatives, and NGOs.

Forum participants discussed common challenges, and shared best practices and ideas for future US-India cooperation on issues facing women and girls, including involving private sector and civil society partners.
