Indian Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu Stresses Vital Role of Indian Americans in Fortifying US-Ind

The Indian envoy underscores the significance of the India-US relationship, emphasizing its importance for global well-being and highlighting the cooperation between the two nations.

The ongoing Indian Ambassador to the United States, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, emphasized the critical significance of the US-India relationship during his address to a group of Indian Americans in the US. Sandhu, who set to retire from the Indian Foreign Service after a distinguished 35-year career, urged the Indian American community to play a proactive role in maintaining and strengthening ties between the two nations

Sandhu stressed to the audience that the bilateral relationship between the US and India is significant for the two countries and for global well-being. He urged the community to ensure that the second generation of Indian Americans remains connected to their roots in India, encouraging frequent visits to the country.

Reassuring the assembly, it was emphasized that any apprehensions regarding the safety of their children traveling to India would be taken care of, ensuring a foolproof experience with embassy and consulate backing. Emphasis was placed on the advantageous prospects for the second generation, underscoring that individuals with familiarity with India could be in high demand for international companies looking to establish a presence in the country.

The ambassador expressed optimism about the future growth of the US-India relationship, citing areas such as affordable healthcare, energy, technology, startups, innovation, and emerging technologies. Sandhu emphasized that the collaboration between the two nations will expand significantly in the coming years.

During his tenure, Sandhu played a crucial role in establishing the Indian Consulate in  Seattle, the sixth consulate in the US after New York, Chicago, Houston, Atlanta, and San Francisco. He announced that two more Indian consulates are slated to open in the US soon, underlining the continued growth of diplomatic ties. Sandhu acknowledged the instrumental role of the Indian American community in fostering relations between the two countries. He highlighted the influence of individual associations and groups within the community in promoting connections between India and the US.

The ambassador disclosed involvement with 44 governors and numerous mayors across various US states, acknowledging the decentralized authority at state and city levels. Sandhu emphasized the critical role the Indian American community plays in facilitating business and diplomatic interactions at these levels, stating that their involvement is essential.

Sandhu, a seasoned Indian Foreign Service officer, received accolades from the Indian American community for his leadership and contributions to the US-India relationship. His legacy is acknowledged for impacting various aspects of bilateral cooperation, setting the stage for continued collaboration between the two nations.
