Indias Defense Exports Hit All-time High US Biggest Importer

In 2021–22, India exported technology and products for the defense industry at a record Rs 13,000 crore, a remarkable increase of 54.1 percent over the previous year. The US, the Philippines, and other nations in South-East Asia, the Middle East, and Africa are the main destinations for the nation's exports of defense goods. Sanjay Jaju, Additional Secretary at the Department of Defence Production (DDP), stated during a press conference that there are a recorded Rs 13,000 crore of exports, which is the largest export number recorded in defense. In comparison to around five years before, exports in 2021–22 were almost eight times higher. India exported defense goods for 8,434 crore rupees in 2020–21, 9,115 crore rupees in 2019–20, and 2,059 crore rupees in 2015–16. Progression has been positive though COVID-19's first two years were a bit of a setback.
The defense ministry will honor a private sector organization and another from the public sector that fared the best in terms of defense exports at an event on Monday called Artificial Intelligence in Defense. Private sector businesses typically hold a stake of about 90 percent of the market for defense exports. Additionally, successful last year, Indian public sector businesses contributed 30 percent of the nation's defense exports. Ajay Kumar, the secretary of defense, announced that 75 recently created AI goods and technologies with uses in defense will be unveiled at the event. The products fall under the categories of automation/unmanned/robotics systems, cyber security, human behavior analysis, intelligent monitoring system, logistics and supply chain management, speech/voice analysis, and C4ISR systems (command, control, communication, computer, and intelligence, surveillance & reconnaissance). In addition to the 75 goods being released, another 100 are being developed at various stages.
