Governors and LGs of US States Support Ties With India

Governors Tom Wolf from Pennsylvania and Asa Hutchinson from Arkansas along with Lt Governors Garlin Gilchrist from Michigan, and Eleni Kounalakis from California made an aggressive pitch before a group of more than 100 Indian businesses travelling to the US to attend the annual Select USA Investment Summit in the American Capital

FREMONT, CA: Bipartisan groups of governors and high-ranking officials of the USA have endorsed good bilateral relations with India. They have also pushed for investment from the Indian corporate sector, which they claim brings foreign direct investment and skills and local job creation in the US. The governors of Pennsylvania and Arkansas and the lieutenants of Michigan and California made aggressive pitches to a group of more than 100 Indian businesses attending the Select USA Investment Summit in the American Capital. These top State level elected officials stated during remarks at a reception held at the well-known India House by India's ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, that Indian businesses add value to their state economies, bring in new skill sets, and most importantly, create highly sought-after jobs.

Over 155 Indian businesses have invested USD 22 billion. About the unicorns that appeared every week, the Pennsylvania Governor mentioned that India is a dynamic nation, and it is a sleeping giant. The Republican governor expressed his pride at having retained his affection and admiration for India throughout the years. Democratic governor of Arkansas claimed that both parties favour the relationship between the US and India. The Governor also mentioned that large amounts of foreign direct investment from Indian firms, such as Welspun Mahindra Group, Infosys, TCS, and Wipro, which employ thousands of people from Arkansas, have helped Arkansas. Wipro only recently announced that 400 Arkansans would be employed at a new, massive service facility. So, the Government respects the significant investments that have been made. Another example of an Indian company investing in its Arkansas business as well as in kids promoting STEM education in our state is Tata Consulting Services (TCS). STEM refers to science, technology, engineering, and math fields.

Lt. Gov. of Michigan remarked that Michigan is already home to several significant Indian-American businesses, such as Mahindra, Tata Group, and Wipro. In Michigan, where they benefit from a strong business climate, a cost of living that is ten per cent less expensive than the national average, a highly skilled and devoted workforce, and an incredible quality of life that my counterparts will appreciate you saying is unmatched across the United States of America. If California were a nation, it would have the fifth-largest economy in the world. Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis of California exhibited confidence in the future of the state's ties with India. California has more Indian Americans living there than any other state. They make up 6.4 per cent of the population of the San Jose Sunnyvale Santa Clara census tract in regions like Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Silicon Valley. This relationship will expand further as long as trade between California and India overall keeps expanding despite the pandemic. Commerce between the subnational government and India increased from over USD10 billion before COVID-19 to USD12.5 billion in 2021. Almost 300 Indian-owned businesses are functioning in California that employs more than 8,000 people and generate more than USD980 million in pay annually.

So, from the Golden Gate to the India Gate, the connections between California and India are solid and only gaining strength, whether it is between Silicon Valley and Bangalore or Hollywood and Bollywood. Sandhu welcomed the top governors, Lt Governors, and other top officials from the US Government and emphasized the strength, resilience, and competitiveness that Indian companies in the US contribute to the US. They develop capability and technological know-how while producing jobs in the neighbourhood.
