The departing Indian Ambassador to the United States, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, highlighted the evolution of the bilateral relationship between India and the U.S., emphasizing its maturity and overcoming historical hesitations. At a reception hosted by a bipartisan group from the U.S. Congress at Capitol Hill, Sandhu acknowledged the challenges but underlined the relationship's positive growth. He recalled Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address to the U.S. Congress, where he spoke of overcoming historical hesitations, emphasizing the profound significance of those words.

Expressing gratitude for the bipartisan farewell reception, Sandhu took to social media, expressing his delight at the event and his appreciation for the warmth the U.S. Congressional members extended. The Capitol Hill event held a special place in his reflections, marking the conclusion of his tenure where it all began.

The farewell reception garnered attendance from notable figures such as Ro Khanna, Mike Waltz, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthy, Kat Cammack, Ami Bera, Rep. Haley Stevens, Congresswoman Deborah Ros, and Shri Thanedar. The bipartisan nature of the gathering reflected the widespread support for fostering stronger ties between India and the U.S.

At a farewell hosted by USIBC, Ambassador Sandhu shared cherished moments collaborating with U.S.-India partners for relations' progress. Kurt Campbell, a top national security aide to U.S. President Joe Biden, commended Ambassador Sandhu's efforts in enhancing India-U.S. relations, acknowledging his valuable contributions.

At the same event, Atul Keshap of the USIBC referred to Sandhu as a star and emphasized that his absence would be deeply felt. Sandhu's role as the Indian Ambassador to the United States commenced in February 2020, coinciding with then-President Donald Trump's visit to India. Throughout his tenure, he worked towards sustaining the positive momentum in bilateral ties.

He boasts extensive experience in U.S. affairs, having served at the Indian Mission in Washington DC twice earlier. His diplomatic career includes roles such as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India in Washington DC  and First Secretary (Political) at the Embassy of India, Washington DC, responsible for liaison with the United States Congress. Additionally, he served at the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations, New York.

Concluding his tenure, Ambassador Sandhu reflects on the maturation and flourishing of the India-US relationship, emphasizing its dynamic growth. He expresses gratitude for collaborative efforts with officials and supporters, highlighting strengthened bilateral ties.
