‘’In the face of a growing demand for post-secondary education and limited capacities, India is keen to bridge the anticipated gap, by improving the quality of its own higher education with the help of reputable foreign universities, while enhancing capacities,” says SB Anumolu, managing trustee of The Indus Foundation, reports Rajani Kanth.
Association of Indian Universities (AIU) conducted a study on the foreign university collaborations in India and it was revealed that 631 foreign education providers were functioning here in the year 2010, which was just 144 in 2000, said Anumolu.
He added that, “Of these collaborations, the maximum number were from the UK (158), followed by Canada (80) and the US (44). Of these, 440 were functioning from their home campuses, 5 opened their own campuses in India, 60 had programmatic collaboration with local institutions, 49 were operating under twinning arrangements and 77 had arrangements other than twinning or programmatic collaboration.”
Universities form 40 countries across the globe are expected to be a part of the summit.
“The objective of the summit is to explore opportunities for collaborations between foreign universities and Indian institutions, apart from guidance of Indian students for higher education in India and abroad,” Anumolu said.
