Indian-American Appointed to key Texas Board

Houston: A prominent Indian-American community leader here has been appointed to a key body of engineering professionals in Texas.

Texas Governor Rick Perry appointed Sockalingam "Sam" Kannappan and Edward Summers to the Texas Board of Professional Engineers for terms to expire on September 26, 2017.

The board licenses qualified engineers, enforces the Texas Engineering Practice Act and regulates the practice of professional engineering in Texas.

Born in Nattarasankottai in Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu, Kannappan is a senior design engineer for SNC-Lavalin Hydrocarbons and Chemicals.

Kannappan received a bachelor's degree from Annamalai University and a master's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas.

He is one of the co-founders of Sri Meenakshi Temple in Houston.
