Ami Bera Desires to See an Indian American as U.S. President

Bangalore: Ami Bera, an Indian American congressman has expressed his desire to see an Indian handling the post of U.S. President, reports DNA. With Indian-Americans being one of the most powerful ethnic groups in the U.S., the dream is not that unrealistic. Dr Ami Bera is an Indian- American physician by profession, born to immigrants from Gujarat Presently he is the only Indian-American serving  the US Congress, representing Sacramento County.   

On his recent two day visit to India, Dr. Ami Bera expressed his wish. The motive behind the visit was to develop better economic relationship between India and America.  

“Indian Americans are starting to get more engaged in politics. But certainly getting more (Indian-American) people to run is the first step. I think it is only a matter of time before someone starts to run for senate,” said Bera to DNA.

Bera also added that India is playing a key role in maintaining the region of Afghanistan and a wide range of initiatives have been undertaken for education, public health and infrastructure in the area.

Being a Gujarati by birth, Bera appreciated the developmental work done by Narendra Modi in Gujarat in the past few years.

Dr. Ami Bera also stated that he would “love to see an Indian American as US President” in his lifetime.
