Bangalore: India is globally recognized as the 'Land of Temples' and Indians are known to be immensely fanatic about their religion. Even though America is not so renowned for its religious landmarks, there are few outstanding shrines in the U.S. which draws people from various parts of the world. The Bahai House of Worship
The Bahai Temple is located in Illinois and it is the oldest surviving Bahai House of Worship across the whole world and the only one in America. The shrine which is circular in shape has nine sides and is situated amidst fountain-filled gardens.
The shrine is open to everyone irrespective of reliogn, "we don't ask what your religion is -- we don't even care," the temple's summer tour coordinator, Gwendolyn Clayborne, said. "It's a place for people to come and meditate and pray and just get in touch with their spiritual sides'', reports Csomor.
The House of Worship was added to the National Register of Historic Places in the year 1978 and because of its increasing preference among tourists, it has been named as one of the "Seven Wonders of Illinois’’ by the Illinois Office of Tourism.
