10 Famous Americans You Didn't Know Were Indian
Alexi Grewal
Alexi Grewal is the first Indian-American man to win an Olympic gold medal in road cycling at the 1984 summer Olympics held at Los Angeles. The cycle which helped him to create history is now at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History.
Grewal took cycling as a profession after winning the Olympic medal and he also signed up with the Panasonic team and later was associated with the 7-Eleven Cycling Team. The cycling community describes this champion as an ‘extraordinarily talented, but emotionally volatile rider’.
After retiring from professional cycling, Grewal took the job of a carpenter making crafted furniture and architectural features out of native hardwoods.
He emerged as the winner in most of the cycling competitions he participated, which includes Bob Cook Memorial Mt. Evans Hillclimb in the years 1981, 1984 and 1990 and Men's Individual Road Race in 1984.
