WhatsApp Is Bigger Than Twitter, Claims CEO

Bangalore: WhatsApp, the cross platform messaging app is bigger than Twitter, claims Jan Koum, CEO of the company in an interview with AllThingsD. He said that the messaging app is comparatively higher than Twitter users and has more messages being exchanged than Facebook, according to the reports of Firstpost.

Recently, Twitter had stated that it has 200 million monthly active users and sends over 400 million tweets every day. According to Koum, WhatsApp has more than 200 million active users and handles over 20 billion messages per day. And these messages consist of 8 billion inbound messages and 12 million outbound messages which implies that it higher than Facebook’s 10 billion messages per day.

WhatsApp is a popular messaging app and the application can be downloaded for free in all the platforms except for iOS. The app can be used freely for a year in non-iOS platforms and on iOS; it can be used for free throughout after the initial download which costs around 1 dollar.

Besides, Koum said that the company is proud of their anti-advertising manifesto. He added, "We're proud of that. Who likes advertising? We're so bombarded with ads so much in our daily lives and we felt that Smartphones aren't the place for that. Our phones are so intimately connected to us, to our lives. Putting advertising on a device like that is a bad idea. You don't want to be interrupted by ads when you're chatting with your loved ones."

In the recent past, there were lot of speculations about Google and Facebook trying to acquire the cross platform app. However, the company has denied both the rumors.
