Smartphone- The 207th Bone Of Gen Y Indians

#8 They’re Everywhere!

Smartphones are used everywhere, even in the most private of places. The craving to stay connected means that the lines between work and social life/family life are blurring.  People check for work updates and communicate at all hours from every place imaginable.  Now there are no clear markers between “the work day” and personal time– both blend and overlap throughout the day and night.

In India, 84 percent of respondents use their smartphones in bed; in fact many check their smartphones in the morning before they get out of bed!  And for some, it’s the last thing they do at night. 22 percent of Indians admitted of using Smartphones in the bathroom compared to the global average of 33 percent. More than 56 percent of respondents check email and social media during meals with friends and family compared to the global average of 46 percent.

As dangerous as it is, almost one in five admit to texting while driving. In India, only 15 percent admit to texting while driving.
