Report: Intel Is Making Its Own Phone UI "Obsidian"
Bangalore: Intel is the latest one to try its hand on a custom made UI to mobile platforms that may include Tizen and Android. Code named as “Obsidian,” the UI overlay appears to use very boxy, closely packed icons that mirror the flatter designs of Windows Phone and Android over the skeuomorphism of iOS. Three soft buttons are persistent along the bottom of the screen, according to a source at Intel who tipped Ars Technica with several early screenshots and some video of Intel’s new UI.
The UI makes use of a rotation to alert users of notifications, rather than pop bubbles over an icon like Android. The icon for the particular notification rotates 45 degrees and displays a red notification in the bottom corner to differentiate it from the rest of the apps. The diamond element also crops up to display things like contact info.
