Mobile Broadband: The Next Big Thing In India


BANGALORE: Broadband internet connectivity that was once considered a luxury is now spreading fast, especially through mobile phones. With these developments it has also opened the doors for many people living in rural India access to information and change their lives forever, reports Rediff.

More and more people today using digital services like social media, gaming, banking, ticketing, and shopping, and all these diverse user needs has put unique demands on network providers both in terms of speed and quality of service.

In the midst of a massive data revolution, the country has witnessed a whopping 785 million mobile subscriptions at the end of 2013, and this number is expected to grow to 1.14 billion by 2020. Additionally, the country has reached 160 million mobile internet subscribers consuming approx 250 MB of data. And most of it is driven by social media, web browsing and chat.

Along with this the video traffic is also on the rise. And due to this the mobile broadband providers are forced to provide superior network performance, coverage and speed as the top three parameters for a good mobile broadband experience. It estimated that by 2020, the mobile internet subscribers are set to grow four times to reach 620 million and due to that the Smartphone penetration is estimated to rise by 45 percent from current number of just around 10 percent.

To sum up, the mobile broadband has certainly created a revolution by tapping on new opportunities for operators and at the same time making new demands on them to keep pace with the changing needs of consumers.
