Microsoft's 'Blue' Gateway into the Smartphone Market

Bangalore: If the rumors serve us right then Microsoft is scheming a launch that will put it back on par with the Android and Apple led market.

Usually it takes Microsoft to release products on a 3 year cycle. They test it,fix the bugs and by the time they release it, brand new products from other developers would have already flooded the market. So much can happen in three years that it’s virtually impossible for Microsoft to release a contemporary OS. In the time that took Microsoft to fix Vista and release Windows 7, Facebook went from a few thousand users to 300 million users, and Apple released the first — and two more iterations — of the iPhone. Windows 8 began development before the initial release of the iPad — before the tablet market even existed — and wasn’t launched until after the iPad 3.

It took Microsoft long enough to realize that they will drown soon enough if they don’t turn up the torque in the rotors. With Microsoft Blue, the PC OS giant will be releasing tweaks and updates on a yearly basis, much like the Apple Store, that will reach the customers directly instead releasing new products that now roll out with new manufactured units.

The real benefits of Microsoft’s Blue will be seen in Windows Phone and Windows 8 where its competitors release updates on a yearly basis if not less. With the new code Blue, Microsoft’s hope to push ahead and assert its dominance on the Smartphone using population will see new light. For a company that has been releasing products on a 3 year cycle, the real challenge will be to cut down time and expedite the whole process to be able to discharge new enticements every year. Will Microsoft be able to deliver on the said timeframe? – We will have to wait for the Blue wave to hit the shores.
