Google To Buy The Satellite Maker Company Skybox Imaging For $500 Million
BANGALORE: Google gets its hands on Skybox imaging for $500 million where it will initially help the company improve its satellite imaging services on its digital maps. Skybox is a five year old startup company, which provides intelligence reports on all the industries and happenings on the earth by interpreting images and videos, reports NDTV Gadgets.
Google’s motto behind the acquisition could be to not only assist with its maps but to also help the company in setting up the its own fleet of satellites to provide internet access to the places where internet can’t be set up and provide access to the outlying areas. Google hopes to build satellites which would increase the effort of the company’s ‘project loon’- an initiative by Google to provide internet to the areas where proper internet set up cannot be done featuring high altitude balloons with antennas providing 3G like speeds.
“The time is right to join a company who can challenge us to think even bigger and bolder, and who can support us in accelerating our ambitious vision," said Skybox in a blog post.
