Google May Come Out Unscathed From FTC Probe
Bangalore: Google is to come unscathed out of two years old Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) anti-trust investigation into its search preferences, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
However FTC may call off its probe sometime this week since Google is to make voluntary changes to its search practices rather than making the company sign a formal settlement called a consent decree, the Journal said.
The search giant may still be required to sign a consent decree for a separate federal investigation into the licensing of mobile-technology patents after its acquisition of Motorola Mobility, the journal said.
Both FTC and Google declined to comment on the Wall Street Journal report, and could not be reached for a comment, Reuters reported.
It could be good times ahead for Google as the company is shaking itself off the antitrust investigations.
