Promotes Forced Labor in: Burkina Faso

The leading women apparel manufacturer allegedly uses child labor in its farms to grow cotton. Situated in Burkina Faso, the farm homes thousands of children not older than 13 years who are beaten and forced to work without appropriate food and sleep. Bloomberg interviewed girls from the farm who spend their nights in plastic bags and are woken up by shouting of their boss. A Victoria’s Secret executive later issued a statement saying, “They describe behavior contrary to our company’s values and the code of labor and sourcing standards we require all of our suppliers to meet. Our standards specifically prohibit child labor. We are vigorously engaging with stakeholders to fully investigate this matter.”
