Forced Labor in the Basements of Giant Companies

Bangalore: Unknowingly we all buy and consume products which are manufactured using forced labor. Look at the shirt you are wearing or the piece of imported dark chocolate that you popped into your mouth, have you ever realized that these are made by children who are supposed to go to school or by men who are captivated and forced to work for minimal wage.

It is unacceptably true but the giant companies which generate billion dollar revenues every year are built upon the weak shoulders of men, women and kids who are poor and helpless. They are starved and sometimes tortured to work for as less pay as possible.

Let’s look at some of the companies that use unethical labor to fill their pockets.

1. Apple

Product: Electronics

Annual Revenue: $108 Billion

Promotes Forced Labor in: China

Apple has been in controversy for a long time regarding its tie up with Chinese associations that encourage forced labor. Foxcon, KYE and many other Chinese factories that supply spares to Apple Inc. egg on forced labor. They employ thousands of students for a minimal 60 cents per hour wage. The workers are literally imprisoned in the factories with the worst imaginable facilities. The day starts with torturing drills followed by over 20 hours of continuous work. There have been several claims of sexual harassments from these factories which cater to companies like Microsoft, Nokia and HP as well.

Let us take a look at the other companies that breed this social disease.
