Engineering, Teaching- India's Top Childhood Dream Jobs: LinkedIn Research


Bangalore: As part of its “Dream Jobs” study, LinkedIn, the professionals’ social networking site, surveyed more than 8,000 professionals globally in which 415 participants were from India to find out the most common childhood career aspirations and how many professionals are currently into their childhood dream jobs.

Survey reveals that the top childhood dream jobs for men in India were engineers (18.6 percent), scientist (9.4 percent), soldier (8.3 percent), airplane or helicopter pilot, doctor, nurse and emergency medical technician (6 percent) and teacher (5.7 percent).  

And the top dream jobs for women in India were—teacher (16.1 percent), doctor, nurse or emergency medical technician (14.5 percent), engineer (8.1 percent), scientist (6.5 percent), lawyer and soldier (4.80 percent).

Nearly one out of every three LinkedIn members surveyed around the world which makes up to 30.3 percent said they currently are into their childhood dream jobs or the jobs related to their childhood dream. The professionals who said they currently not into their childhood dream jobs said-- “As I got older, I became interested in a different career path,” as the primary reason, and they work in an unrelated field, make up to 43.5 percent.
