China Takes Over U.S As Top Smart Device Market, India At 8th
Bangalore: For the first time ever, China overtook U.S. to become the leading smart device market. According to Flurry analytics, China has successfully turned out to be the largest market in the world in terms of active smart devices. As per the reports, it has tracked around 2.4 billion application sessions per day across more than 275,000 applications around the world.
Flurry’s definition of smart devices includes mobiles and tablets running on iOS and Android, but doesn’t include Windows Phone and BlackBerry operating systems. It has achieved the landmark nearly a year after China overtook U.S in terms of monthly iOS and Android activations.
As per the Flurry data of January 2013, both U.S and China are nearly equal with 222 million and 221 million devices respectively. As China grows at a quicker pace than U.S, Flurry points out that China has more chances of leading the top positions in terms of active smart devices by the end of February. Studies show that China will have 246 million devices compared to 230 million in the U.S, according to NDTV reports.
Further, it was stated that China will stay as the top country in the coming years, and it is doubtful whether it would give up its lead because of its large population base. Besides, Flurry also shared data about fastest growing markets in terms of smart device installed base over the last year. The list is ranked by developing countries, with Cambodia leading with 278% growth. China acquired 6th with 209% growth, whereas India 8th with an increase in total number Android and iOS devices of 189%.
