Yahoo Set To Shutdown Seven Products Including BlackBerry App This Year

Bangalore: Yahoo is shutting down seven products this year including its app for BlackBerry Smartphones which will not be available from April 1st.  CEO Marissa Mayer has confirmed the elimination of these unsuccessful products en-masse.

The product shutdown which was revealed in the company’s official blog is thought to be done in order to maintain the regular evaluation and review of its line-up.

However, this is the second announcement by the company since Marissa Mayer had taken the position of  CEO, previously being Google’s executive. Even Google has its so called ‘spring cleaning’ announcements every year in which multiple products are shut down.

The company will also stop supporting Yahoo Avatars, the cartoon like characters that users use to depict themselves on Facebook or Yahoo messenger. But consumers who want to use the avatars must download them and re-upload the information to their personalized yahoo profile.

Besides this, other products that are set to be terminated include, Yahoo App Search, Yahoo Sports IQ, Yahoo Clues, the Yahoo Message Boards website and the Yahoo Updates API.
