Vodafone India Doubles Rates For 2G And 3G Net Users

BANGALORE: Vodafone, India’s No.2 operator and leading GSM service provider, has doubled the internet rates for its 2G and 3G customers across the country, With increased rates set to follow a phased roll out across the telecom circles, reports TNN

The rates have increased for “pay as you go” (PAYG) pre-paid and post paid users from 2 paisa per 10KB to 4 paisa per 10KB while most operators offer 2 paisa per 10KB. The company had in the recent past reduced the rates by up to 80 percent to 2 paisa per 10KB, from 10 paisa per 10KB. However, even after the increased rates, some of these tariffs from Vodafone are among the lowest in the country for both pre-paid and post-paid customers.

Vodafone spokesperson said, “Vodafone has revised its mobile internet charges for PAYG users. At 4 paisa per 10KB, Vodafone still offers most attractive and lowest standard mobile internet charges in the industry for pre-paid and post-paid customers. This is applicable to both 2G as well as 3G customers”

He further added that this change to mobile Internet rates for 2G and 3G subscribers is applicable across all circles but is being rolled out in a phased manner.

The company had earlier mentioned as part of its strategy to “democratize” data, Vodafone was educating current and potential users about how internet can add significant value to them but has now logged in 125 percent year-on-year increase in data traffic.

Vodafone has 52 million data customers in the country where 7 million are 3G data users but the sudden hike in rates could affect its customers who may then prefer to opt for other operators.
